Morocco’s King Pardons Over 1,700 Inmates for Throne Feast Celebration

King Mohammed VI has pardoned 1769 inmates convicted by various Moroccan courts as part of the celebration of the Throne Feast.
These people convicted of various crimes are either at liberty or in detention, including the most vulnerable categories, namely the sick, the elderly, or pregnant women and those accompanied by their children.
According to the Ministry of Justice, there are 1459 detainees, including 74 detainees pardoned for the remainder of their prison or hard labor sentence, 1375 detainees who benefit from a remission of their prison or hard labor sentence, and 2 detainees who benefit from the commutation of a life sentence to a fixed-term sentence and finally 8 detainees who benefit from the commutation of a life sentence to a fixed-term sentence.
As for the inmates who are beneficiaries of the royal pardon and are at liberty, they number 310 people and are also divided into different categories.
100 detainees were pardoned for their prison sentence or the remainder thereof, against 10 who benefit from the pardon for the prison sentence with maintenance of the fine. Furthermore, 190 detainees are pardoned for the fine sentence and 10 people for the prison and fine sentence.
