Morocco’s King Orders Ramadan Food Aid for 3 Million as Holy Month Begins

A few hours before the start of the month of Ramadan in Morocco, King Mohammed VI instructed the officials of the Mohammed V Foundation to launch the 22nd edition of the food distribution operation for the benefit of three million people.
In a press release, the Mohammed V Foundation announced that the launch of the 22nd edition of the "Ramadan 1442" food distribution operation will be given tomorrow, Wednesday, April 14, the first day of the holy month. The beneficiaries number three million (600,000 households nationwide, including 459,504 from rural areas).
This operation was initiated in 1999. This year’s edition is part of the continuity despite the health emergency context, the statement said. In this time of pandemic, national solidarity and mutual aid are essential to relieve modest families weakened by the socio-economic impacts of the health crisis, the same source added. The operation is organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior through the General Directorate of Local Authorities and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.
The food support, consisting of seven food products (10 kilograms of flour, 5 liters of vegetable oil, 4 kg of sugar, 1 kg of lentils, 1 kg of vermicelli, 850 grams of tomato concentrate and 250 grams of tea) will help alleviate the burden of food needs related to the holy month of Ramadan, the Foundation said. The operation will be carried out in strict compliance with the health measures enacted to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its variants in the kingdom.
