Morocco's King Mohammed VI to Visit Qatar and UAE Amid Gaza Truce

As the truce between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip came into effect this Friday, King Mohammed VI, president of the Al Quds Committee, is said to be embarking on a tour that will take him to Qatar, a key player in the discussions between the Hebrew state and the Palestinian movement, and to the United Arab Emirates.

King Mohammed VI will be on an official visit to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates starting Saturday, reveals Maghreb-Intelligence, adding that teams from the sovereign’s services, as well as teams from Moroccan public media, were already on their way to Doha on Thursday, November 23. Several members of Aziz Akhannouch’s government will also be making this trip. While the agenda of these two royal visits remains unknown, the media is convinced that "the Palestinian issue will occupy a prominent place, in addition to the excellent relations existing between the three countries". Morocco maintains good relations with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which are among its main allies in the Gulf region. Together, these three countries can play their part in resolving the Hamas-Israel conflict.

Recently, Israelis and Moroccans have called on King Mohammed VI, president of the Al Quds Committee, "working to safeguard the Holy City and preserve its historical and legal status" for help. In a correspondence whose facsimile dated November 3 was made public on X (formerly Twitter) by David Govrin, head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, the "Israeli Forum of Families of Hostages and Missing Persons", an organization set up to provide logistical assistance to the families of Israeli hostages, has requested the intervention of King Mohammed VI for the release of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. "242 hostages are being held in worrying conditions, causing major concern," the letter states.

The Association of Moroccans in Israel, based in Tel Aviv and chaired by Shimon Ohayon, a former Knesset member for the right-wing nationalist secular party Israel Beiteinu and a professor at Bar-Ilan University, native of Marrakech, has also addressed a letter to King Mohammed VI. Ohayon has sought the "empathy" and "support" of the sovereign in the face of the Hamas attack, which he describes as having "the sole purpose of murdering and eliminating the Jews".

The sovereign will start this tour after the entry into force this Friday of the four-day humanitarian truce between Hamas and Israel, negotiated in particular by Qatar, Egypt and the United States. A total of 50 hostages are to be released in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners during this break.
