Morocco's King Mohammed VI Marks 20 Years of Reign: Analyst Highlights Era of Reconciliation and Progress

In an interview with Point Afrique, analyst Hicham Rahil, President of the Franco-Moroccan Friendship Association for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region in France, dissected the speech to the nation that King Mohammed VI delivered during the celebration of his 20 years of reign.

"This new era of Mohammed VI is also marked by a period of great reconciliations, at all levels," said Hicham Rahil, who took stock of the 20 years of King Mohammed VI’s reign.

On the political level, the Franco-Moroccan noted that there has been "a political reconciliation with the opposition and the left, after a long break and a fierce struggle between the political classes and the power".

On the issue of freedoms, he noted that "the Moroccan citizen now enjoys a greater margin of expression". "We can see it," he said, "particularly on social networks or in the press".

The reconciliation with the Amazigh culture and the cultural diversity of the country is also to the credit of King Mohammed VI’s record.

Economically, Hicham Rahil believes that "economic reconciliation has given Moroccan investors access to the production of national wealth, now involved in the economic development and prosperity of their country". This reconciliation has, he said, opened the door to others, particularly with the administration, justice, etc.

For the President of the Franco-Moroccan Friendship Association for the PACA region, France and Morocco are linked by a "solid and historic relationship" of "proximity and intimacy".

Furthermore, he was pleased that the King’s speech had addressed all spheres of the Kingdom’s life, by making a real diagnosis, before proposing a new social contract, capable of reducing the "glaring disparities".
