Morocco’s King Launches Ramadan Food Aid for 600,000 Families Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The king Mohammed VI ordered the launch of the Ramadan-1441 food distribution operation, in favor of 600,000 underprivileged families, including 459,504 in rural areas.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is already mobilizing for the organization of the 21st edition of the Ramadan food aid operation. A social action that is part of the national momentum to fight the effects of covid-19 of which the sovereign is the initiator, and in application of the high royal instructions.
An essential mobilization, during this holy month of Ramadan, so that national solidarity continues to provide aid and comfort to vulnerable people and families living in precarious situations, and to reduce the socio-economic effects of the pandemic, it is indicated.
The Foundation has strengthened its resources in order to expand the coverage of beneficiary households. Thus, the total number has been increased to 600,000 households (an additional 100,000 households compared to the previous edition), for a total investment of 85 million dirhams (purchase of foodstuffs and logistics).
All the provinces of the kingdom are affected by this increase in the number of beneficiary households. In total, three million people, in particular the elderly, widows and people with disabilities from underprivileged backgrounds and the rural world in 83 provinces and prefectures of the kingdom, will receive food.
The basket is made up of seven essential products: 10 kg of flour, 4 kg of sugar, 250 g of tea, 1 kg of lentils, 1 kg of vermicelli, 5 L of oil and 800 g of tomato concentrate. This represents an act of mutual aid and solidarity aimed at alleviating food needs related to the Ramadan period.
