King Mohammed VI is expected in El Jadida, where he should launch the work on the largest seawater desalination plant in Africa.
For a few days now, El Jadida has been getting ready to welcome King Mohammed VI. The Moroccan sovereign should visit this province on Monday, June 10. On the agenda of this royal visit: the launch of the work on the largest seawater desalination plant on the African continent, located in the rural commune of Lameharza Sahel, in the El Jadida region.
This is a major royal project, which is part of the new national water plan 2020-2027. Its realization will relieve the population who suffer greatly from water scarcity and drought. It will have to meet the needs of a continuously growing population in the Casablanca-Settat region, estimated at around 7 million inhabitants.
The plant will have a treatment capacity of 200 million m³ of seawater per year, expandable to 300 million m³ per year by 2030. 250 million m3 should be allocated to meeting human consumption needs. The rest will be dedicated to agriculture through irrigation.
