Morocco’s King Extends Olive Branch: Invites Algerian President for Diplomatic Talks

King Mohammed VI is looking for ways and means to ease tensions between Morocco and Algeria. In this sense, he has invited Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Morocco.
A meeting between King Mohammed VI and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was scheduled, "as for any head of state making the trip," Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra had said, who regretted the absence of the sovereign at the Algiers summit during an interview with the Saudi channel Al Hadath. The latter still being in the logic of easing tensions between Algeria and his country, in turn invites Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to come "dialogue" in Morocco, declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita. It remains to be seen whether the Algerian head of state will accept this new outstretched hand from King Mohammed VI.

Since August 2021, Algeria no longer maintains diplomatic relations with Morocco. Nearly a month later, on September 22, 2021, it closed its airspace to Moroccan civilian and military aircraft and those with a Moroccan registration number. The settlement of the conflict in the Sahara and the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv are among the points of friction between these two neighboring countries.
