Morocco’s King and UN Chief Discuss Sahara Tensions Amid Guergarate Crisis

King Mohammed VI had a telephone conversation on Monday, November 16, with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, regarding the latest developments in the national issue, in particular the situation in the Guergarate area in the Moroccan Sahara.
"During this conversation, the King stressed that after the failure of all the Secretary-General’s commendable attempts, the Kingdom of Morocco has taken its responsibilities within the framework of its most legitimate right, all the more so as this is not the first time that the Polisario militias have engaged in unacceptable actions. Morocco has restored the situation, definitively solved the problem and restored the fluidity of traffic," indicates a royal cabinet.
The sovereign specified that the Kingdom of Morocco will continue to take the necessary measures to ensure order and guarantee safe and fluid movement of people and goods in this area on the border between the Kingdom and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, continues the same source, stressing that the King reaffirmed to Mr. Guterres Morocco’s constant commitment to the ceasefire.
With the same force, the Kingdom remains, the sovereign hammers home, firmly determined to react, with the utmost severity, and within the framework of legitimate defense, against any threat to its security and the tranquility of its citizens.
"Finally, the King assured the Secretary-General that Morocco will continue to support his efforts within the framework of the political process. This should resume on the basis of clear parameters, involving the true parties to this regional dispute and allowing a realistic and achievable solution within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty," concludes the statement.
