Morocco’s Justice Minister Calls for Women’s Restrooms in Courthouses, Citing Detainee Needs

The Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, expressed outrage at the lack of women’s toilets in courthouses, which he says is a "real problem" for female detainees.
"Unfortunately, there are no women’s toilets in the courthouses, and female detainees cannot use the men’s toilets without them being completely cleaned first," said Abdellatif Ouahbi during a meeting of the justice commission on legislation in penitentiary institutions.
For the minister, social workers should be deployed in the courthouses to help female detainees cope with certain difficulties they face. "If one of the detainees gets her period while she is at the courthouse, what will she do? To whom will she ask for hygiene products?" he questions.
Ouahbi added that "certain issues concerning women can only be addressed by women themselves," specifying that these issues must be addressed with courage and boldness.
