Morocco joins the global race for civil nuclear power

At the Nuclear Energy Summit held in Paris, the coalition to triple nuclear power has taken a major step forward with the accession of China and Brazil. This group, now counting 38 states, aims to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. According to Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, these new memberships "greatly" strengthen this gathering of ambitious nations.

Morocco is among the 27 signatories of a specific declaration aimed at expanding the sources of financing for civil nuclear projects. This document emphasizes that nuclear power, used responsibly, is an essential lever to ensure energy security and national economic development, while meeting the growing demand for affordable electricity.

This strategy is based on the mobilization of diversified funds, including public resources, private investments and the support of international institutions such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The signatories advocate for stable regulatory frameworks to promote the deployment of low-carbon technologies, essential to complement the rise of renewable energies.

In parallel, the Kingdom has co-signed with 32 other countries a declaration reaffirming nuclear power as a "strategic resource". This text, entitled "For safe and affordable nuclear energy for all", establishes nuclear power as a pillar of the just and sustainable energy transition necessary to achieve carbon neutrality by the middle of the century.
