Morocco Joins ECOWAS Summit on Counterterrorism Efforts in West Africa

A strong delegation, including the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and the Director General of Studies and Documentation, Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, participated, on royal instructions, on Saturday, September 14, 2019, in Ouagadougou, at the Extraordinary Summit of ECOWAS on the fight against terrorism.
Present in Ouagadougou to represent the King, the Minister of Foreign Affairs recalled that Morocco’s participation in these proceedings was not a surprise, given the exceptional relations that link the Kingdom to the West African region.
According to the head of the Moroccan delegation, Morocco has long been involved in the efforts of the countries in the region to curb terrorism. In this regard, he shared with these countries his experience in the fight against terrorism.
Thus, in a long presentation that was strongly applauded by the audience, the Minister presented the situation of terrorism in this region of Africa as well as the experiences of his country, the only Maghreb country not yet hit by an attack.
In addition to the 15 ECOWAS member countries, the Summit was also attended by several organizations and partner countries in the fight against terrorism in the region.
This extraordinary meeting in Ouagadougou is a recommendation of the last ordinary session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government, held in June in Abuja, Nigeria.
