The number of people prosecuted under arrest does not exceed 5% for a total of 2,379 people since the entry into force of the decree-law and until Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m., according to a statement from the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the rate of prosecutions at liberty is around 95%. As for the use of pre-trial detention against these people (2,379), it is justified by the fact that violations of the health state of emergency were associated with offenses they had committed, such as attacks on persons, theft, drug trafficking or violence against officials responsible for law enforcement.

To fight against false information, the public prosecutor’s offices have opened 107 judicial investigations that have led to legal proceedings against 80 people. The other investigations are ongoing.

Aware of its role in preserving public order and the safety of citizens, the public prosecutor’s office maintains that it will not hesitate to apply the law with the required firmness against all offenders who expose citizens to the risk of contamination by covid-19.
