Morocco’s Istiqlal Party Rebuffs Algerian President’s Accusations, Vows to Defend National Interests

The Istiqlal Party (PI) reacted to the verbal attack by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune against Morocco and King Mohammed VI.
"Morocco, which has always shown wisdom, common sense and discernment in the face of the provocations of its eastern neighbor, will nevertheless continue to defend its territorial integrity and protect its supreme interests, with the necessary firmness and rigor," said the party of Nizar Baraka during its national council held on June 5, in reaction to the Algerian president’s allegations about Morocco.
"The rupture with Morocco - and I’m talking about the monarchy, not the Moroccan people, whom we respect - goes back so long that it has become commonplace. [...] How can one think of offering an entire territory (Sahara, editor’s note) to a monarch, with all its population? Where is the respect for peoples? This recognition means nothing," Abdelmadjid Tebboune recently said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Point.

The party of the balance denounced these "declarations" which it considers "irresponsible and clumsy from the junta in power in Algeria." According to him, these statements "denote a deep hatred and reflect a tyrannical doctrine that never ceases to conspire against the interests of the Moroccan and Algerian peoples, and to distill its venom to divide the brothers of the two countries." Morocco "will not be diverted from the path it has charted to build its new development model, play its roles at the regional and international levels, and remain faithful to its conviction of the need to build the Union of the Great Maghreb," the party said.
