Morocco Invests 42 Billion Dirhams in Road Infrastructure Over 4 Years

Morocco has invested a total of 42 billion in its roads between 2017 and 2021, compared to 33 billion DH between 2012 and 2016, said the Minister of Equipment and Water, Abdelkader Amara, on Tuesday.
During this period, the government has allocated an average annual budget of 8.4 billion DH, compared to 6.6 billion DH between 2012-2016, a growth rate of 27%, recalled Abdelkader Amara to the House of Advisors. According to the Minister of Equipment, 739 km of expressways have been built for an amount of 6 billion DH.
In detail, 46% of the budget allocated to roads is reserved for maintenance and modernization, including an amount of 1.25 billion DH for the program to reduce territorial disparities. To this are added the usual maintenance works which cost 250 million DH.
Regarding the national rural road program, some 15,000 km have been launched for the benefit of 3 million inhabitants, not to mention the program to reduce territorial disparities of some 4 billion DH, the minister said. Moreover, Morocco has 15,548 bridges, noted Minister Amara, arguing that his department is working to solve the problems related to some 680 engineering structures submerged by floods.
