Morocco Invests 21 Billion Dirhams in Local Development Projects

The Communal Equipment Fund granted a loan of 4.26 billion dirhams (MMDH) to local authorities (CT) in 2018 to finance projects worth over 21 MMDH in investments.
The provinces and prefectures dominated the structure of loans granted to local authorities, according to the 2018 activity report of the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Economy.
The share of loans granted to them was 46% for a total amount of 1.96 MMDH, including 1.72 MMDH for the financing of programs and projects within the framework of the protocol of agreement signed between the Ministry of the Interior (DGCL), the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the FEC.
As for loans, the municipalities are ranked 2nd with an amount of 1.17 MMDH (28%), far ahead of the regions with 1.13 MMDH (26%), the report specifies.
In terms of sectors of intervention, 58% of FEC loans, or 2.48 MMDH, were used to finance urban development works, including 1.37 MMDH for the benefit of prefectures/provinces, while 26% of the loans were mobilized for the construction of rural roads.
