Morocco Invests 825 Million Dirhams to Boost Drinking Water Access in Northern Region

A multilateral convention project involving an envelope of 825 million dirhams for the supply of drinking water in northern Morocco takes into account 413 douars in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. Pending its approval, the officials are working hard to ensure access to the blue gold for the population.
To define and organize the framework of intervention of each of the signatory parties in order to implement the structuring projects of the drinking water supply, and this, within the framework of the Program for the Reduction of Territorial and Social Disparities during the period 2019-2023. This is the objective of the text of the Convention, according to the MAP.
The same source reports that this drinking water supply project will be financed by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), to the tune of 475 MDH, the Regional Council, with 263 MDH, and the Ministry of the Interior, for 87 MDH, pending the signing of the agreements with each of the municipalities concerned.
To this end, three projects take into account the province of Chefchaouen. The first one concerns the supply of municipalities such as Bni Selmane, Bni Salah, Bab Berred, Bni Rzine and Lounane, thanks to the Bni Ahmed groundwater and with an envelope of 350 MDH.
As for the second project, whose budget envelope reaches 150 MDH, it concerns the supply of 56 douars in the municipalities of Oued Malha, Tamorot and Bab Berred, from the Al Wahda dam.
The third project, on the other hand, will take into account 23 douars in the municipalities of Talambote and Tassift by supplying them from the Oued Laou groundwater, with a budget envelope of 55 MDH.
Regarding the province of Ouezzane, the Convention provides for the supply of 37 douars in the municipalities of Sibi Bousber, Sidi Ahmed Cherif and Zghira, thanks to a budget envelope of 47 MDH and 17 douars in the municipalities of Ain Beida and Sidi Redouane, for an amount of 18 MDH.
However, a budget envelope of 15 MDH is planned for a total of seven douars in the municipality of Azzinate under the prefecture of Tanger-Asilah, to benefit from access to drinking water.
