Morocco to Investigate Low Baccalaureate Pass Rates, Education Officials Face Scrutiny

Officials from the regional directorates of national education in Morocco risk losing their jobs due to the low success rates in the baccalaureate recorded in certain regions of the kingdom.
The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports will send central investigation commissions to the regions concerned, such as Casablanca and Laâyoune, to investigate the causes of this abnormally low Bac pass rate and identify the responsibilities, reports the daily Assabah.
The Minister of National Education, Chakib Benmoussa, wants explanations from the regional directors about this incomprehensible situation, especially since the State has provided them with the necessary means to succeed in their mission.
Once the investigation commissions have submitted their reports, the ministry will take measures against the senior officials of the academies concerned, some of whom will undoubtedly be sanctioned, while others will be removed from their posts before the next school year.
According to data from the Ministry of National Education, 304,068 candidates successfully passed the 2023 Bac, which represents a success rate of 73.99% compared to 78.84% in 2022, a decline of 4.85 points.
