Morocco Introduces Steep Fines for Littering: Up to 10,000 Dirhams for Environmental Offenses

The public highway is no longer a trash can. From now on, throwing or abandoning waste in the street, on the beach or in nature will be subject to a criminal fine that could reach 10,000 dirhams.
In her fight for environmental protection, the Secretary of State for the Environment, Nezha El Ouafi, has sent a circular to all the regional directors of her Ministry, for the implementation of the Environmental Police.
Control and inspection operations have been in place since Eid al-Adha. Similarly, reports will be drawn up by the specialized police to sanction any offender. Waste can no longer be deposited outside the conditions set by the relevant ministerial decree.
According to Akhbarona, which cites the circular, the lack of discipline causes a pile-up of garbage in several cities with, of course, all the inconveniences we know.
