Morocco Introduces New Code of Conduct for Prison Staff to Align with UN Standards

A "Code of Conduct and Professional Obligations of Personnel" has just been published by the Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR).
In the first chapter of this Code, a series of general provisions and the objectives for which it was instituted are provided, as well as a highlight of the national and international references and texts that inspired these rules.
These are, in particular, the United Nations Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules), the Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials and the Special Statute of DGAPR personnel, notes the same press release, reported by the MAP.
The same media notes, for example, in the first part of the second chapter, the general obligations that DGAPR employees must respect, such as perseverance, integrity, integrity and participation in training programs.
As for the second part, it is devoted to the rules of paramilitary discipline, in particular with regard to professional secrecy and the duty of discretion, specifies the same source.
Regarding the third chapter of this Code, it is devoted to the revision of the rules of good conduct towards prisoners and visitors in penitentiary institutions, in particular with regard to the fight against violence and torture, as well as the need to preserve the security and integrity of the institution and prisoners.
To this are added the development of services provided to visitors and the assurance of a proper reception, with the obligation to receive and process their complaints and claims within a reasonable time, adds the same press release.
