Morocco Introduces Body Cameras for Police to Boost Transparency and Trust

As part of strengthening the relationship between citizens and police officers, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has equipped itself with body-worn cameras. The use of these tools will help establish mutual respect and transparency during various security interventions on public roads.
According to the explanations of Divisional Commissioner Mohamed El Mehdi El Abboubi, central officer at the Directorate of Information and Communication Systems, body-worn cameras are a technological means that allows the audiovisual recording of police interventions of all kinds.
Their main objectives, he listed, are the protection of the citizen and the police officer, as well as the review of images for investigative purposes.
According to the divisional commissioner, this action undertaken by the DGSN is part of, among other things, the respect for human rights and individual freedoms.
Mr. El Abboubi also said that the DGSN is working, through the Directorate of Information and Communication Systems, to strengthen innovation as part of the modernization and strengthening of the technological tools of its services.
The purpose is to put in place a set of technological tools at the service of the police officers. Among these tools is the video protection equipment.
