Morocco to Introduce 30-Day Paternity Leave for New Fathers

A bill, currently being studied by the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform, will soon be presented to the Council of Government. This law will have the merit of granting new fathers a one-month paternity leave after a revision of administrative authorizations.
The draft law is inspired by the joint responsibility of spouses, granting fathers a 30-day leave, 11 of which are paid. This resolution follows previous requests made by deputies to grant an extension of paternity leave. The 3 days of this leave are insufficient to allow the father to accompany the mother in caring for the newborn.
The Rally of Independents (RNI) party had proposed, at the end of 2018, to amend the Labor Code, particularly Law 65.99, so that "each employee has the right to a 30-day leave on the occasion of each birth. A mandatory 15-day paid leave, and 15 optional days".
The archaic paternal model is outdated, according to the political party. Parental responsibility has evolved a lot, moving towards an equitable sharing of family tasks. This new vision makes it possible to define the rights and obligations of each within the family and to prevent the mother from having to bear all the chores.
