Morocco’s Interior Minister Rejects Claims of ’Structural Violence’ Amid Crime Concerns

During the plenary session held on Tuesday at the House of Advisors, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, was upset by the statement of a member of the Democratic Confederation of Labor.
Questioning the minister on the issue of public safety, a CDT Advisor stated that "violence has become structural in Morocco," alluding to the rise in the crime rate and rapes.
The Advisor cited the example of a citizen in Salé who was attacked by stray dogs. She also drew the minister’s attention to the origin of the bladed weapons that have become commonplace on Moroccan streets.
The intervention was not to the liking of Abdelouafi Laftit, who reacted firmly: "the image presented by the Advisor compares the country to a forest. But this is not the truth. Security exists, and we cannot generalize from a single example."
