Morocco Installs Surveillance Cameras to Combat Begging in Major Cities

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has announced the installation of surveillance cameras in the main cities of the kingdom to fight against begging.
The Ministry of the Interior will install surveillance cameras to "improve security and prosecute those responsible for these acts [of begging] on Moroccan streets."
The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, recently declared in parliament that his department "attaches great importance to the fight against begging [...] as well as the exploitation of minors and people with special needs who tarnish the image of the streets."
A total of 28,769 people, including 2,408 foreigners, were arrested for begging on the streets of the kingdom in 2022, compared to 32,669 people, including 2,975 foreigners, in 2021, he stressed.
