Morocco Informs UN Security Council of Military Action in Guerguerat Buffer Zone

The Security Council has been informed of the latest developments in Guerguerat in the Moroccan Sahara. A comprehensive report was made on the operation of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) to secure the free movement of people and goods in the buffer zone.
In two letters addressed to the Security Council on November 13, the Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale stressed that this intervention by the FAR made it possible to find a solution to the blockade caused by the Polisario militias and to restart civilian and commercial traffic on this road link between Morocco and Mauritania.
For the Moroccan diplomat, this operation by the FAR made it possible to interrupt the ceasefire violations, military agreements and Security Council resolutions orchestrated by the Polisario. In these two documents, Omar Hilale specified that these actions took place without incident, and in the presence of the MINURSO. No casualties were recorded during this action, the diplomat said.
In these correspondences, the Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN noted that this non-violent intervention was welcomed by the Moroccan people, including the population of the Sahara and the international community. He also informed the executive body of the United Nations of the telephone conversation between King Mohammed VI and the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on November 16. According to the Moroccan ambassador, Mohammed VI assured that the kingdom will continue to take the necessary measures to ensure order, guarantee safe and smooth movement of people and goods in this area while supporting its efforts within the framework of the political process.
