Morocco Imposes Strict Entry Rules for Expats, Altering Summer Travel Plans

The strict health measures imposed in Morocco during these times of the coronavirus pandemic are forcing Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to give up their vacation plans in the country.
After canceling the 2020 edition of the Marhaba operation, the government has imposed strict health measures, a sine qua non condition for the return to the country of MREs, due to the epidemiological situation which is not yet stable, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
For MREs who plan to spend their vacation in Morocco by returning by sea, they will have to give up entry through Spain and take the boat from the ports of Sète (France) or Genoa (Italy).
As for those taking a flight, they are limited to the two Moroccan airlines, namely Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia. At this level, travelers will have to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate not exceeding 48 hours before their boarding.
In addition to this, wearing a mask and limited luggage are required. According to the CEO of RAM, all these measures have been taken on these flights to ensure the health safety of the company’s customers and employees. He also supports that the luggage allowed in the cabin is limited to handbags, baby carriers and laptop cases.
This limitation of the companies for this exceptional operation has led to strong reactions on social networks due to the exorbitant prices of airline tickets imposed on travelers. According to the company, the prices are only subject to the law of supply and demand in this exceptional period.
