Morocco Imposes Export Controls on Face Masks Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Faced with fraud and speculation, protective masks are now subject to an export license in Morocco.
The Executive wants to control the marketing of protective masks on its territory. To this end, a decision recorded by an order, was signed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, after the opinion of the Minister of Health.
This order has already been published in the Official Gazette. This formality consecrates the inclusion of protective masks on the long list of products subject to an export license.
According to the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, the Kingdom has a stock of 12 million masks.
The entry into force of this order coincides with the seizure, on Tuesday, March 3, of a truck transporting 100,000 protective masks at the port of Tanger Med. The driver of this heavy goods vehicle, a British national, intended to ship them to his country, where they were to be sold at a high price.
