Morocco to Impose Ramadan Curfew as COVID-19 Cases Rise

As Ramadan approaches, Morocco is moving towards a partial lockdown to avoid a third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. A curfew will thus be imposed throughout the month of fasting.
Faced with the resurgence of Covid-19 cases and its variants, the Moroccan government intends to impose a curfew during the month of Ramadan. Citizens will therefore be prohibited - except those whose professional activity requires travel at night or in case of emergency - from circulating at the time of the breaking of the fast around 7:00 pm and at the time of the dawn prayer, around 5:00 am, reports the Arabic-language newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The imposition of the curfew aims to avoid a third wave of the epidemic. Last year, Morocco had recorded a surge in coronavirus infection cases in the aftermath of Eid Al-Adha. A situation that risks repeating itself this year if strong measures are not taken. Aware of this risk, the Moroccan authorities are considering tightening health measures on the eve of the month of Ramadan. Already, law enforcement officers of all corps have been instructed to carry out field operations to ensure that all measures are respected.
