Morocco Identifies 1,800 Areas Lacking Internet Access, Minister Pledges Coverage

During a debate organized by the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Ghita Mezzour, Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, revealed the share of Moroccan territory without internet coverage.
In total, 1,800 areas in Morocco are not or are poorly covered by an internet connection. This emerges from Ghita Mezzour’s intervention during a debate organized by her party, the PAM, and published on its website. However, she did not provide details on the number of inhabitants concerned. She did assure that her department is on the job. All these regions have been identified, and "will all be covered," she promised. And to specify: "During next summer, a first operation" to generalize coverage in terms of telecommunications and internet will be launched.
Last year, most of the grievances expressed by parliamentarians boiled down to connectivity issues, Mezzour said. Since 2023, some 95% of the remote regions have internet coverage as part of the national strategy for the development of high and very high speed broadband. But the minister was unable to keep her promise to cover all regions of Morocco by the end of 2023.
