Morocco’s Hunger Index Improves, Ranks 42nd Globally in Nutrition Report

Morocco ranks 42nd out of 117 in the ranking of countries most and least affected by undernutrition in the world. This is revealed by the Global Hunger Index Report, published on October 14.
In this ranking, Morocco (42nd) is among the countries with a "low level of hunger". It is behind Tunisia (23rd place) and ahead of Algeria (47th), according to the Global Hunger Index Report.
The same source points out that the Hunger Index in Morocco is constantly decreasing since 2000, going from 15.8 to 9.4 in 2019. In detail, the proportion of the population in undernourishment has dropped from 6.8% in the early 2000s to 3.4% in 2017-2018.
As for the prevalence of wasting, it has declined sharply over the past 10 years, except between 2017 and 2018, when it went from 2.3% in 2008-2012 to 4.3%.
Although the prevalence of stunting in children under 5 has seen a slight increase, it has recorded a sustained decline since the early 2000s, from 14.9% from 2008 to 2012 to 16.6% between 2014 and 2018.
Under-five mortality has been steadily declining since 2000, from 5% that year to 2.3% in 2017, the report details.
Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba and Estonia are at the top of the ranking. Chad, Yemen and the Central African Republic are the countries most affected by hunger in the world.
