Morocco’s Human Rights Minister Withdraws Resignation After Government Apology

Mustapha Ramid, Minister of State in charge of Human Rights and Relations with Parliament, would have withdrawn his resignation after receiving apologies from the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani.
Mustapha Ramid reportedly reported his decision in the evening of Friday, February 26, after the apologies presented to him by the Head of Government, reports Le360. According to the same source, the minister’s resignation was explained by the fact that he had not been informed of the decision taken by decree and in the Council of Government (also on Friday and exceptionally) to convene an extraordinary session of Parliament as early as Tuesday, March 2.
"Mustapha Ramid took it very badly, he who, through his functions as Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, coordinates between the legislative institution and the Executive," say certain sources. Sources close to El Othmani’s entourage have tried to explain the reasons behind the convening of an extraordinary session of Parliament without prior notice. "Knowing that he has been seriously ill for several weeks, the Head of Government did not consider it appropriate to inform him, in order not to disturb him in the medical examinations he is undergoing," they said.
