Morocco Hotel Pools Face Backlash Over Burkini Ban
In Morocco, the ban on wearing the burkini in the pools of certain hotels prevents Muslim women from fully enjoying their summer vacation. The measure is considered discriminatory and a violation of women’s right to wear the garment of their choice.
Every summer, many Muslim women complain about this measure taken by certain hotels or private beaches banning the wearing of the burkini. These women say they are surprised to be denied access to private pools or beaches because of the burkini they wear for reasons of religious conviction, but also for health reasons to avoid exposure to the sun’s rays.
Many Internet users have denounced this measure, which they consider a violation of the right to rest and leisure, explaining that the ban on swimming because of the burkini is unfounded and does not respond to any logic. Some Internet users have refuted the arguments that the burkini emits harmful chemicals, stressing that this garment is made with the same fabrics as ordinary swimsuits.
Muslim women have the right to wear the clothes of their choice, the Internet users insisted, urging hotel and pool owners to respect this right and put an end to these discriminatory measures.
