Morocco’s Hotel Boom Sparks Concern in Canary Islands Tourism Industry

Morocco is attracting major hotel chains such as Accor, Hilton, Intercontinental (IHG), Marriott and Radisson who are determined to establish themselves in the kingdom, as well as in other North African countries. A situation that worries the Canary Islands.
These hotel giants plan to build 361 hotels in North Africa in the coming years, including 161 in Morocco, or 100,000 additional beds, reports Huffpost, noting that such an investment would help strengthen the tourist attractiveness of the kingdom.
The five hotel groups also plan to invest in Tunisia, with the construction of 18 new tourist accommodations, and in Egypt with the opening of 109 new hotels. Investments that worry the Canary Islands, a popular tourist destination for many travelers.
The archipelago fears losing a significant part of its tourist flow with the construction of these new hotels in Morocco and North Africa in general.
