Morocco Holiday Disaster: Booked Hotel Doesn't Exist

A confirmed reservation that disappears, documents stolen before departure, a hotel nowhere to be found upon arrival: Morocco holidays can quickly become a nightmare when booking platforms and insurance companies stop responding.

Morocco holidays sometimes start with an unpleasant surprise. A retired French couple, aged 85 and 87, experienced this after a trip that was supposed to be straightforward but turned into an obstacle course.

Even before arriving in Morocco, the couple fell victim to theft of the wife’s identity documents and bank card at a Paris airport. Once there, a new problem emerged: despite a confirmed reservation on Expedia, the hotel found no trace of their stay.

The two retirees then found themselves in the medina’s narrow streets, suitcases in hand, without accommodation and unable to quickly reach an advisor, reports Le Bien Public.

Reservations Not Always Guaranteed

This case illustrates a frequent problem during the summer season: travelers think they are protected because they have a reservation confirmation, but the situation can become complicated if the hotel claims to have received nothing or if the platform is slow to respond.

Disputes related to tourist accommodations are multiplying with the success of booking platforms. Misleading listings, unsanitary accommodations, unreachable owners, or last-minute cancellations can turn an eagerly anticipated stay into a headache.

For travelers heading to Morocco, caution remains essential: keep confirmations, verify directly with the hotel before departure, keep a copy of identity documents, and know what guarantees are included in your bank card or travel insurance.

In case of problems, remedies exist, but they can take time. However, when a family or elderly people find themselves without a room upon arrival, the immediate priority is finding a solution right away, before even obtaining a refund.
