Morocco to Hold First Jewish Community Elections in 50 Years

On April 19, King Mohammed VI had ordered Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit to organize the elections of the Representative Instances of the Moroccan Jewish communities, which have not been held in Morocco for about 50 years.
The press release published shortly afterwards by the ministry indicated that the sovereign had "also asked the Minister of the Interior to ensure henceforth the respect of the periodicity of the renewal of these instances in accordance with the provisions of the Dahir of May 7, 1945 relating to the reorganization of the committees of Jewish communities".
However, the ministry did not provide any date for the holding of these elections, which should, in all likelihood, take place by the end of the year.
The 2m channel interviewed Moroccan Jews of the Jewish faith who are delighted with the sovereign’s initiative.
