Morocco’s Historic Medinas Face Restoration Delays as Government Urges Action

The Ministry of the Interior has called for the implementation of the conventions relating to the rehabilitation of the old medinas of Larache and Ksar El Kébir, in partnership with the Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region.
Faced with the delay observed in the implementation of these conventions, the Ministry of the Interior has called all the stakeholders to these conventions to order, inviting them to play their part and respect their commitments, reports Al Akhbar.
The reminder to order from the department led by Abdelouafi Laftit came following the questioning of the government by a parliamentary group on the reasons for this delay. The parliamentary group took the opportunity to recall the richness of the architectural heritage of Larache and Ksar El Kébir, stressing that the rehabilitation and enhancement of the old medinas of the two cities should contribute to boosting local tourism.
In 2020, the Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region had approved five partnership agreement projects for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the old medinas of Chefchaouen, Ouezzane, Ksar El Kébir, Larache and Tangier. Work that should cost 1.86 billion dirhams.
