Morocco’s Highway Woes: Bouznika Toll Chaos Threatens World Cup 2030 Image

Concerned by the traffic jams at the toll stations, particularly at the one in Bouznika, the deputy Loubna Sghiri, member of the Progress and Socialism group, questions the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh.
In a written question addressed to Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, the deputy Loubna Sghiri, member of the Progress and Socialism group, mentions the "persistent structural malfunctions" that hinder the fluidity of traffic on the highway networks and undermine the interests of users. According to her, this recurrent phenomenon "damages the image of the Kingdom" while Morocco is preparing to host major sporting events, including the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) and the World Cup in 2030.
To support her argument, the elected representative cites Bouznika as an "emblematic example of organizational shortcomings" in a network supposed to reflect modernity and performance. Not to mention the traffic jams that are almost daily there, with critical peaks during rush hours and on weekends.
The deputy welcomed the Jawaz electronic toll system, which allows for smoother traffic on the dedicated lanes. This partial improvement "creates (however) an inequality of access" because many motorists do not use this service, she pointed out. The ministry cannot be satisfied with a segmented approach to a problem that requires a comprehensive overhaul, Sghiri believes.
