Morocco's High-Speed Train Al Boraq Hits 2.5 Million Passengers in First Year

Two and a half million passengers have used the Moroccan high-speed train, Al Boraq, since it was put into service a year ago, according to the report by Rabie Khlie, Director General of the National Railway Office (ONCF).

According to the ONCF, in one year, an average of 8,250 passengers were transported daily by 7,000 high-speed trains, with a punctuality rate of 97% for 28 round trips per day and, above all, 92% of satisfied customers.

For the ONCF, the total number of passengers transported is set to grow further with a forecast of 3 million passengers by the end of December 2019. This is the result of economic profitability based on four factors: "optimized financing, frugal investment, optimized pricing in line with purchasing power and competitive operating costs," reports the HuffPost website.

Symbolizing the vision of the great works characterizing King Mohammed VI, "Al Boraq has undoubtedly played a role as a real locomotive to initiate a new turn and has managed to make a major qualitative leap by reinventing the national rail offer," indicates a press release issued by the ONCF, according to which the highly modern train has also enabled "undeniable multidimensional ripple effects as a catalyst for socio-economic dynamics and a symbol of a new era of mobility," before concluding that "in addition to its positive impact on territorial marketing, its effects cover different areas such as urban planning, real estate, and the tourist attractiveness of the cities concerned."
