Morocco Health Official: Too Early to Judge Chloroquine’s Effectiveness Against COVID-19

In response to the thousands of questions that Moroccans are asking about the effectiveness of chloroquine, the Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control took the floor on April 1st. According to Dr. Mohamed Youbi, it would be "premature" to currently establish an evaluation on the effectiveness of chloroquine in the treatment of the new coronavirus.
In an interview with Map, the Director of Epidemiology preferred to play the card of caution by stating that it would not be possible, at the current stage, to affirm that "the results of chloroquine are conclusive". He said he was pleased to see "the number of recoveries increase, up to ten cases for Tuesday, March 31 alone".
The Ministry of Health, according to him, is in the process of analyzing all the data to establish a link between "the beginning of use of the protocol based on chloroquine and the associated drugs" and "the increase in the number of recoveries".
For those who are expecting a large number of self-medication with chloroquine, the epidemiologist reassures that the authorities have taken the lead by regulating the use of the drug. From now on, "its prescription and dispensing are subject to a number of criteria".
As of April 1, 2020, the number of deaths due to coronavirus in Morocco stands at 37, while the number of people declared cured is 26.
