Morocco’s Health Ministry Assures Ample Supply of Tuberculosis Medications

The Ministry of Health has reassured patients about the availability of anti-tuberculosis drugs in healthcare facilities.
The fight against tuberculosis is a strategic priority for the Ministry of Health. According to the department of Khalid Ait Taleb, globally recognized performances have been recorded as part of the National Tuberculosis Control Program.
Among these, we can mention the 34% decrease in the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate of the national incidence. It went from 149 per 100,000 inhabitants in 1995 to 99 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2018, the same department points out.
As for the detection rate, it went from 74% to 86% from 1995 to 2018. To this are added the therapeutic success rate of over 86% since 1995 and the maintenance of a very low prevalence of drug-resistant tuberculosis (1% of primary resistance and 11% of secondary resistance).
Furthermore, the government spends 47 million dirhams each year on the purchase of first and second line anti-tuberculosis drugs. They are distributed regularly and free of charge to all patients, the same source points out.
