Morocco's Health Minister Urges Mask Wearing as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Morocco has unfortunately returned to very high infection rates, prompting the Health Minister to speak out. He calls on Moroccans to be aware and responsible in order to control the situation so that the country can continue its march towards collective immunity.

2,257 new coronavirus (Covid-19) infections and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours. A record toll that concerns Khalid Ait Taleb. He deplores the total relaxation in compliance with barrier measures.

"Wear the mask for a week, respect the barrier measures, and the infection rate will be corrected," insists the Minister of Health, before adding that "if citizens do not respect physical distancing, regular hand washing and all the measures enacted by the health authorities, the situation risks worsening, especially with the Eid festivities and during this summer period," reports l’Économiste.

Ait Taleb implores the population not to waste all the efforts and sacrifices made so far to fight the virus. He recalls "the obligation to wear a mask and to comply with the preventive measures in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic."

While the vaccination campaign is going well, giving hope that Morocco could reach immunity in a few months, the epidemiological situation has been marked in recent days by the appearance of serious cases and a rising number of deaths. According to the minister, this is the case everywhere and with the vacation period, not respecting the measures taken is a collective suicide. "The situation remains unpredictable, but we will spare no effort to curb this viral infection with all the means at our disposal," concludes the minister.
