Morocco’s Health Minister Questioned Over Unpaid Hospital Interns and Residents

Many interns and residents working in several hospitals find themselves without salaries and allowances for months. Hassan Oumarbit, PPS (Opposition) deputy of the House of Representatives, addressed a written question to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb.
While Morocco continues to face the health crisis that is affecting almost all countries in the world, many interns and residents are without salaries and allowances for months, worries the Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribiya. Eighteen of them work at the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center in Agadir. They have not received their allowances for the second consecutive year. Their multiple protests have been to no avail.
This situation is worrying for elected officials like Hassan Oumarbit, PPS (Opposition) deputy of the House of Representatives. He addressed a written question to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, regarding the delay in salaries of resident and intern doctors. The MP said that a large number of resident doctors from the 2021 batch, who work in various hospital facilities in the kingdom, are experiencing a particularly difficult financial and psychological situation.
"These salary delays have had a negative impact on the work of doctors, who have also suffered greatly both socially and personally, especially since the majority of them do not have alternative income that could have helped them make ends meet," added the PPS MP.
