Morocco’s Health Minister Denies Arrival of COVID-19 Vaccines, Awaits First Shipment

Contrary to certain rumors, Morocco has not yet received any doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, said Health Minister Khalid Aït Taleb.
Fake news, commented Minister Khalid Aït Taleb before the commission of social sectors in the House of Representatives. For the head of the health department, the information relayed by some local media and social networks is unfounded. According to him, the launch of the vaccination campaign is dependent on the receipt of the first doses from one of the companies with which a contract has been concluded.
In his presentation, this operation should concern citizens over 18 years of age according to a vaccination schedule in two injections. The minister assures that the teams on the front line, in particular health personnel, public authorities, law enforcement, national education personnel as well as the elderly and vulnerable will be the most prioritized categories.
The campaign will then be extended to the rest of the population to preserve public health and reduce the economic and social consequences of the pandemic with the guarantee of a vaccination coverage rate of nearly 80% of the population.
