Morocco’s Hammam Owners Protest Extended Closures Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The owners of the hammams are unhappy with the closure of their establishments since August 20 due to the discovery of outbreaks of contamination in certain cities of Morocco. They do not understand the reasons why the government is harassing a sector that has not recorded any cases of contamination.
The owners of the hammams call on the authorities to allow them to reopen their establishments in exchange for the promise to ensure compliance with preventive measures and provisions.
According to the daily Akhbar Al Yaoum, the president of the Federation of Traditional Hammams in Morocco, Hassan Ahchim, said that this sector has been one of the most affected by the restrictive measures imposed by the authorities, despite the losses recorded during the lockdown.
