Morocco Halts Public Sector Hiring Amid Economic Crisis

The Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, has called for the postponement of promotions and the cancellation of recruitment competitions in the public sector.
Faced with this unprecedented crisis, the government should implement austerity measures to preserve the general state budget. The first measure, which will certainly not be the last, is the postponement of promotions and the cancellation of recruitment competitions.
In a note addressed to ministers, deputy ministers and high commissioners on March 25, the Head of Government explained that this decision aims to "relieve the state budget and allow it to direct available funds to meet the challenges ahead".
This decision concerns the state administrations, local authorities, public administrative establishments, institutions and establishments whose civil servant salaries are paid from the state budget.
Furthermore, the note specifies that the freeze on recruitments also concerns competitions whose results have not yet been announced, with the exception of the administrations in charge of internal security and health.
