Morocco Hails US Recognition of Western Sahara as ’Major Turning Point’

Speaking before the House of Councillors last Tuesday, the head of government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, stated that the American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara constitutes a "major turning point in the file of the national cause".
Responding to a question on "social protection: what approach to win the bet of unification, quality and governance?", he indicated that this announcement was followed by concrete measures, including the opening of a US consulate in Dakhla and the official adoption by US administrations and embassies of the map of the kingdom in its entirety.
Mr. El Othmani welcomed the achievements made in favor of the national cause, including the securing of the El Guerguarat passage and the opening of consulates of brotherly and friendly countries in the southern provinces. According to him, these achievements are the result of effective Moroccan diplomatic efforts under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, supported by the determination shown by the Moroccan people since the Green March in defense of the national cause.
The head of government returned to the sovereign’s remarks on this subject: "Morocco will remain in its Sahara, and the Sahara will remain in its Morocco until the end of time", and that the position of the kingdom is strengthened with the international positions and recognitions that are multiplying".
"These victories require collective work and constant effort," assured the senior official, stating that the kingdom cannot win great battles in the absence of a climate imbued with national consensus, patriotism and confidence in its institutions.
He also stated that Morocco and Moroccans have always supported the Palestinian cause.
