Morocco Government Denies Plans to Raise Retirement Age Amid Opposition Concerns

On Monday, opposition deputies addressed an oral question to the government, asking what measures it intends to take to reform the pension system.
During an oral question session in the House of Representatives, opposition deputies expressed their disagreement with the government’s plan to raise the retirement age to 65. Parliamentarians warned against any questioning of the rights of the more than 500,000 civil servants affiliated with the pension system.
The government does not plan to increase the retirement age or reform the pension system, responded Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, specifying that these issues have not been discussed with the unions as part of the social dialogue.
The government’s objective is to preserve the rights of workers, Sekkouri added, stating that the Executive pays particular attention to the issue of pensions and is working to find a viable solution.
