Morocco’s Government Avoids Opposition Censure Motion at Last Minute

The government led by Saâd Eddine El Othmani narrowly escaped a motion of censure prepared by the opposition parties (PAM, Istiqlal and PPS).
The motion was to be announced at a joint press conference of the three opposition parties scheduled for this Thursday, May 27, which was ultimately postponed indefinitely, reports Maghreb Intelligence from a well-informed source. "There were voices within the opposition that pushed for the abandonment of this option," said a source within the majority on Wednesday.
These voices raised the question of the appropriateness of this motion of censure against the government, a few months before the September 8, 2021 elections. According to them, it is up to the sovereign people to decide the fate of the Executive and the PJD at the ballot box. In addition, "the announcement of a motion of censure would have been poorly received in the wake of the presentation of the report of the Special Commission on the development model and which maps out the paths of a new social and political contract for Morocco," develops the same source.
This aborted initiative "informs about the degree of immaturity and lack of seriousness of the parties that make up the opposition," declares for his part a leader of the Islamist party.
