Morocco Gas Station Owners Threaten Strike Over Fuel Prices and Lack of Dialogue

The discontent of the members of the National Federation of Owners, Merchants and Managers of Service Stations in Morocco (FNPCGS) persists due to the soaring price of fuel at the pump and the lack of dialogue with the Ministry of Energy Transition. They threaten to strike if the government does not find solutions to the problems that, they say, are undermining their sector.
In a statement, "the federation calls on the government to the negotiating table, in order to find solutions to the problems of the sector, but also to review the provisions of the Hydrocarbons Code." "Today, it is urgent to engage in dialogue with the government. Together we must be able to reactivate the provisions of the Hydrocarbons Code. The texts are ready. Our proposals are also ready. We need to discuss so that we can put an end to a status quo that has lasted too long," said Reda Nadifi, secretary general of the FGNPS.
Severely affected by the rise in fuel prices, the FNPCGS members are asking for an exemption from the minimum contribution, the amount of which is calculated on the basis of turnover. "The dizzying increase in turnover due to the rise in fuel prices does not at all reflect the reality of the profits of service station owners, given that the margins realized are fixed regardless of the selling price to consumers," the federation explains.
If their cry for help is not heard, the gas station operators say they are ready to strike. Already, the federation is calling on all its members to "mobilize and prepare for a nationwide general strike, if the silence of the supervisory authority persists." It also intends to refer the matter to the Competition Council, in order to "defend professionals and consumer purchasing power".
