Morocco’s Gas Reserves Poised to Boost Energy Security and Economic Growth

Morocco has significant gas reserves that can guarantee its energy security and bring significant revenue to the national economy, according to Sound Energy.
Morocco’s various gas reserves could put the Kingdom at the forefront and allow it to create local wealth and even a surplus for export, says Graham Lyon, CEO of Sound Energy.
To achieve this, Morocco is relying on two projects currently under study and implementation, he said. The first concerns the supply of liquefied natural gas to the main industrial markets. About 100 million cubic meters per year of liquefied natural gas will be delivered to industrial markets. Production and sales are scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2024.
The second project is related to the development of a gas pipeline to supply the electricity markets with gas.
"Although Morocco still relies on coal as a source of electricity, this does not discourage it from moving forward with projects to transition to clean, low-carbon energy sources," added the British official, stressing that "the Moroccan Tendrara field will play a fundamental role in this process".
