Morocco Forms Parliamentary Mission to Address Citizens Detained in Syria and Iraq

The House of Representatives has decided to set up a parliamentary mission to examine the situation of Moroccan women and their children detained in Syria and Iraq.
According to a parliamentary source relayed by Kech24, the parliamentary commission, which will be led by the Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, will hold its first meeting next Monday, in order to set up a work program and agree on the mode of operation.
The initiative, introduced by the opposition deputy in January, aims to respond to the appeals of dozens of Moroccan women detained with their children in refugee camps in Syria and Iraq. Abdellatif Ouahbi had mentioned a visit to the places of detention and the examination of the living conditions of the Moroccan women.
In his presentation, the secretary general had requested the agreement of the Commission on Justice, Legislation and Human Rights within the House of Representatives, in order to be able to examine the modalities of repatriation of the Moroccan women stranded in these conflict zones. He had also called on the Moroccan state to ensure the reintegration of the victims of this "humanitarian disaster" into the social fabric.
For the record, the now former director of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, Abdelhak Khiame, had announced in October 2019 that the wives of Moroccan Daesh fighters would not be prosecuted upon their return to Morocco.
